Look down from the cliffs at Etretat and you’ll see near-deserted beaches of light sand hug the edges while the deep green sea breaks on the shore. This was the wonderful site I saw along the coast that I spent the day walking and filming around. Look closely and you’ll see six sets of sea birds around the painting. This was as reality as the birds flew close by the drone while filming on several occasions to the point I stopped as it was risking the birds themselves. The cliffs had hundreds of horizontal lines that crossed the walls, and each defined the contours that I wasn’t realistically going to paint in. Instead, I reduced the number but still showed the cliffs furthest away had tighter and fainter lines.  Painting in the deep greens of the sea and the whites of the small waves on the beach were very relaxing and reminded me how important the coasts are to me.
