During 2022 I went to Canada and was excited to see the trees in Autumnal colours. On one of my walks along Lake Ontario the sun was past its zenith and streamed through the trees lighting up the path and the leaves in the branches and on the ground. In the distance the concealed shade hinted at further twists ahead although it was just the car park.
I’d recently been to a local Glasgow museum to revisit the impressionists and felt awed at their use of light in natural surroundings. Contrasting sunlit and shaded areas was challenging but adds to the overall tone of this scene. At the close of this piece, I was going to put a figure walking into the shaded trees at the back and realised someone was already there. Can you see them?
