While visiting the sugar boat on the Clyde via a chartered tour I saw views of the surrounding areas that were quite new to me. Viewing the Clyde from the shore makes the water crossing look quick but get into a boat and you realise that its a small vessel in a wide stretch of water. While watching the sea birds on the buoys and other structures in the water I looked north-west towards Roseneath and saw the heavy clouds moving in with the promise of rain (although it didn’t come). However, with the gaps in the clouds, the sunshine spotlighted the area so nicely that I remembered the scene this summer and was happy to paint it. Above the dark clouds you can see the blue sky and on the right it looks a lot lighter. I see the reflections of clouds in the Clyde all the time and painting the vertical reflections with the horizontal water was a nice challenge for me. Not grey, not blue but something in between.
