Rising

This started off so serenely. A rich field of poppies and a distinguished tree anchoring the scene. Then about two thirds of the way through I switched.
Lately most of my paintings have been completed using a rectangular palette knife creating a lattice of horizontal and vertical strokes. Movement was subtle and about setting the right calm mood.
However, I changed mid-painting here. Now the flowers reach out from the field and the tree melds into the foreground and background. Red is the dominating colour but battles with the greens and blues. It’s not a serene scene anymore.
