With kind permission from @jonseddonphoto I took his very tranquil sunrise from the West Sussex coast and painted it. The reference photo has a warmer tone of pink but I cooled it down and lightened it up. Taking photos of very light or dark paintings is challenging without picking up too much unwanted reflection and just enough shadow to show texture. The sky and water colours almost blend into each other and I used much longer knife strokes to capture the sky. This style is one one I’ve used a lot of during the last 12 months and will continue to use it for my more serene scenes.
