Like many others in Scotland and the rest of the UK I enjoyed the aurora borealis in February. In my town some of the local viewpoints became very busy during the night with kids turning up in pyjamas and photographers with tripods. I was amazed at the clarity even with the streetlights but eventually I found a place with no lights next to the Clyde.
After painting the northern lights on several occasions without ever seeing them in real life I got a true sense of perspective standing in the dark watching the patterns in the sky. Now I’m signed up to the alerts to know when they appear again. This painting (part of my postcard series) was created to capture the colours of the sky and the reflections in the Clyde so be ready for a bigger version in the future.
